What To Expect During Our Session

Jul 30, 2018

I realized it has been a couple months since my husband, DJ, and I got our pictures taken by Jes Wood and I didn’t even blog about it! I love getting “family pictures” of the two of us because I know in the end I will have pictures to forever be able to look back on this stage in our lives, but like many people, my husband is not always volunteering to get them done.

I have noticed a few things that make people nervous to get their photos taken, but the main ones are 1. Not knowing what to expect and 2. Not knowing what to do or how to stand in front of the camera. I thought if I could let you know exactly what our session will be like, it can relieve some of the nerves.

P.S. Don’t worry, I’ve got the posing covered too. We will make sure to show off your best self in front of the lens.

What you can expect from me during your session:

1.  A consultation for wedding clients.

I love building a relationship with my brides before their wedding days because we will be spending a lot of time together on one of the most special days of your life. I have found when there is trust between the couple and their photographer, there is only room for their best self to shine through in the photos, so before we get to the wedding day let’s meet up and make sure we’re the perfect match for each other. Between our consultation and your complimentary engagement session, I will be a familiar face on your wedding day that you can trust. BONUS: you’ll already be familiar with the way I pose.

2. An excited welcome.

Whether we are in the middle of the desert starting your engagement photos or you’re getting your hair and makeup done on your big day, expect a big hug and an excited greeting. By your wedding day, we are probably pretty good friends (see #1) so I’ll be excited to see you.

3. A posing system.

My posing system ensures you don’t have to worry one bit about what to do or how to stand. You can look your best and feel confident that you are positioned in a way that’s complementary to your body.

4. Me being a little crazy.

You guys, I have been known to go to great lengths just to create genuine smiles on my clients’ faces because genuine = awesome photographs you will love. So, don’t be surprised if I dance, tell the occasional dad joke, or talk in really funny voices… it’s all included in the package.

5. Your vision will come to life.

I’m always open to your posing requests and would love to hear what you have in mind at the beginning of our session so we can make sure we capture everything you’re imagining.

6. An outfit change.

During our session, I encourage my couples to have a change of clothes so we can mix things up and have a couple different looks in your pictures. Occasionally, clients will want a couple outfit changes, but I have found 1 is the perfect number to getting you back in front of the camera and ensuring we max out our time together. Keep in mind many outdoor locations don’t have a restroom to change, so you may have to do it in the car. Not usually a biggie, but if it is, we can plan on a location with restrooms.

7. Digital gallery.

When I was planning my own wedding, one thing I knew for sure was that I wanted all my photos to be accessed on my computer. This made it so much easier for me to post pictures and send them to my family While I highly recommend prints (because who doesn’t want to see their happiest self on the wall), I don’t require you to buy prints to have your pictures.

8. Quick turn around.

Expect to see your Instagram sneak peeks, your own blog post (fun to share on your facebook), and your edited, digital gallery more quickly because of my efficient shooting and editing style.
