A Scavenger Hunt Proposal

Feb 20, 2020

If you’re searching for an incredible date idea, I think I have the perfect one for you: a romance scavenger hunt. You and your significant other would go on a search for all the most romantic places in your city. This is *almost* what Sam did for Katie around California, but in this particular case, Katie was expecting to leave each location with a ring on her finger. Let me explain a little more.

A little over a year before this all took place, Katie and Sam met at a church group. She had joined the same group he had just a couple of months prior. No one may ever know what their true first date was since there seems to be two different ideas: Sam says it was the first time they went out to see a movie together and caught Avengers. Katie argues that time wasn’t an official date, but rather the following time when he took her out to dinner AND a movie. Either way, they hit it off and Sam knew she was the one.

Their friends from the church group were starting to get married, but she wanted to wait a little bit longer, so Sam gave her a promise ring about six months in to tell her he was hers – he was committed and ready when she was.

Almost a year later, she felt the time was about right. She has a suspicion the proposal would be coming soon but didn’t know exactly when. When she told her brother-in-law that they were headed off to California and shared some of their plans, he told her she better get her nails done because Disneyland is the perfect place to pop the question. Not wanting to ruin Sam’s surprise, Katie’s mom convinced Katie not to suspect a thing. So, she packed her bags and headed to the golden state (nails not done) and didn’t expect a thing… yet anyways.

First stop? The beach. The waves were rolling in, the sun was high in the sky on this perfect October morning and they were having the most romantic moment. She thought for a minute he just might… but nope. Back to the car and onto the next destination.

Sam knows just how much Katie adores roses, so the next stop was Balboa Park where the two could walk around the rose garden and soak in the smell of roses to their heart’s content. Okay, so he knows she looooves roses, but the time just wasn’t quite right. Katie may have been a tiny bit disappointed. They had so many romantic moments throughout the day, she would have been ecstatic had he proposed at any single one of them. Little did she know, the most romantic was yet to come.

Finally, that night, as they took a sunset stroll on the beach, Sam finally got down on one knee and asked Katie to be his bride. She, of course, said yes, and mentioned just how many times she thought he was going to propose throughout the day. He actually PLANNED it that way. All those things they had done earlier in the day were to throw her off and make her think he wasn’t even going to propose on this trip so she’d be surprised.

I love the creativity Sam put into his plan for proposing and the AMAZING story they’re going to have to share for the rest of their lives. Congratulations, Katie & Sam, I can’t wait for your wedding day!!
