A New Year’s Eve Ranch Wedding
The day before Johnnie & Tommy’s New Year’s Eve wedding, a torrential downpour threw a big wrench in their plans of hosting in a field on their private ranch. Months earlier, Tommy had planted and tended crops to grow a lush green field for the perfect spot to host their friends and family (a true labor of love), but because of the flooding and mud that came with the rain, the location had to change.
Tommy worked tirelessly to clear out a new spot for the wedding. He moved tractors and trailers and poured gravel to create an intimate space for their ceremony and reception. In the end, he pulled it off and the couple was still able to get married on his family farm.
The overall theme could be best described as what Johnnie called “farm fancy”. There were disco balls and gorgeous jewel-tone flower arrangements on barrels. Guests wore cowboy hats with their boots, blazers, and jeans. Long wooden benches lined the ceremony space in front of a grey barn covered in flowers.
One of the things Johnnie was most excited about was wearing a Navajo pearl necklace her mom gave her for her wedding day. She later did a mini outfit change for the reception by adding a white fur coat and cowgirl hat, which complemented her pretty light blue cowgirl boots perfectly.
Johnnie’s dad and stepdad both walked her down the aisle, where she was met by Tommy and his best man (and 7-year-old son), Riyder. This was an especially important moment to them as a couple because “He is the center of our world and has been a part of “us” since the very first moment of dating.” So, before reading her vows to Tommy, she made some special promises to Riyder as well, making for an especially tear-jerking ceremony.
Following the ceremony, during cocktail hour, guests sipped on his & her drinks (highballs and spicy margaritas courtesy of their drink trailer, the Tipsy Roan), while the kids got to jump in a pretty white bounce house. For dinner, they had a taco truck cater and because of their love of Mexican food, Johnnie and Tommy were excited to be at the front of the line. The rest of the evening was spent on the dance floor where guests danced their hearts out, lined danced, and sang along to their favorite country songs, taking only a short break to throw the bouquet and cut the cake.
Johnnie and Tommy, thank you for sharing such a personal, intimate wedding celebration with me. It was so fun to go back to my “Coolidge roots”. I can’t say enough great things about your wedding day and feel so lucky to get to work with extraordinary couples like you. Happy New Year!
